Canada’s Megan Oldham captured a bronze medal in the women’s freeski slopestyle event at the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games on Monday.
It’s the first Olympic medal win for the 24-year-old freestyle skier from Parry Sound, Ont., who said after the event that she felt redeemed by the result.
“After Beijing, I’ve been seeking redemption. I was fourth in big air in Beijing and then missed slopestyle finals by one spot,” she said. :So this time I was like, ‘I need to put everything into this because I want to be on the podium’. And I’m really proud of my performance today.”
Oldham entered the final run in third place and solidified her podium position with her best score of 76.46.

After occupying third place with a first-round score of 69.76, Oldham crashed on the final jump of her second run.
“I’m pretty sore. My quad is pretty tight and my back is hurting,” Oldham said. “But I just got to the top and was like, ‘I need to collect myself, stay focused. All I have is one more run to do and put everything into that.'”
Oldham recovered to post the best score of the third round and held off Great Britain’s Kirsty Muir, whose final run was less than half a point behind the Canadian.
Switzerland’s Mathilde Gremaud scored 86.96 in her second run to repeat as Olympic champion.
