Slopestyle skiing: 🥉 

Megan Oldham clinched Canada’s second medal of the Milano-Cortina Olympics: a bronze in women’s freeski slopestyle. 

The 24-year-old went big in her final run, earning her more points from the judges. 

But she had to do it the hard way, falling on the landing of the final jump of her second run.

“My quad is pretty tight and my back is hurting. But I just got to the top and was like, ‘I need to collect myself, stay focused. All I have is one more run to do and put everything into that,'” she said.

Her next challenge is Saturday’s big air qualifying.

Women’s hockey: 😓 

Canada will be licking its wounds after a very physical preliminary game against Czechia where the team lost its captain early on.

Marie-Philip Poulin was the first player to exit the game after taking a hard hit into the boards in the first period. The 34-year-old, who is making her fifth Olympic appearance, was slow to get up and didn’t put weight on her right leg as she left the ice. She briefly returned to the bench later in the first, but didn’t come back out from the locker room at the start of the second. We later learned that she would not return to the game. 

And it continued to be very physical from there.

Czechia’s Katerina Mrazova was next to walk down the tunnel in the second period after crashing into the boards from another hit. This game spelled the end of Czechia’s preliminary play in Group A. They move onto the quarterfinals.

Then, Canadian defender Erin Ambrose was helped to the dressing room with a leg injury in the third period after a Czech player fell on her.

The big question now: will Poulin start against the U.S. tomorrow? 

Canada takes on its main rival — the U.S. — at 2:10 p.m. ET after being swept by the Americans for the first time in the Rivalry Series. We play Finland on Thursday after the initial matchup was postponed due to illness among the Finnish team.
