2026 Olympic Games: Canadians chase podium in super-G, luge doubles, ice dance and speed skating

What to know about the Olympics today
Good morning, I’m Verity — a writer in Montreal. Canada has several medal opportunities today and some up-and-coming stars competing in some exciting events, including in the Olympic debut for women’s luge doubles.
Here’s what to watch for:
- Alpine skiing: Jack Crawford will be chasing a podium finish in men’s super-G, starting at 5:30 a.m. ET. In that same event, Riley Seger, 28, is making his Olympic debut, competing alongside older brother Brodie, 30.
- Freestyle skiing: The women’s dual moguls final is set for 8:15 a.m. ET. Maïa Schwinghammer, 24, is competing in her first Olympics after taking the moguls circuit by storm last year.
- Biathlon: The 15-kilometre women’s individual final is also scheduled for 8:15 a.m. ET.
- Speed skating: David la Rue, Laurent Dubreuil and Anders Johnson compete in the men’s 1,000-metre final at 12:30 p.m. ET.
- Luge: The finals for men’s and women’s doubles take place this afternoon. The women take the course at 12:53 p.m. ET and the men go at 1:44 p.m. ET.
In figure skating, the ice dance free skate is at 1:30 p.m. ET. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier will compete, as will Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac — who competed for France at PyeongChang 2018 — and Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha.
