The Canadian swimming trials came to a close Thursday in Montreal, with Taylor Ruck finishing the meet the same way she began it — atop the podium.
The Kelowna, B.C., native picked up her fifth national title of the week, winning the women’s 50-metre butterfly in 25.93 seconds.
To round out the podium, Matea Gigovic finished second in 26.38, while Leilani Fack placed third in 26.88.

“I feel quite tired, and I am excited to just take the weekend off. This has been an awesome week. I just took each day as it came and focused on my races,” Ruck told CBC Sports.
“In summary, I’d say it’s been a great trials and looking forward to Pan Pacs.”
Earlier in the meet, Ruck became just the second Canadian swimmer to win national titles in three different strokes at a single trials, joining Summer McIntosh.
McIntosh was named Swimming Canada trials swimmer of the meet after conquering the long-standing women’s 200m butterfly world record on opening night.
“That was the one world record that I’ve always dreamt of as a kid,” McIntosh told CBC Sports after the result on Sunday.
“To now do it is really incredible.”

Oliver Dawson sweeps breaststroke
18-year-old Oliver Dawson completed his sweep of the men’s breastsroke events with a victory in the 100m.
He timed in at 59.97 seconds, breaking the one-minute mark for the first time, becoming the only Canadian swimmer to collect a time under the 1:01 mark in the event.

“It feels pretty good,” said Dawson, who was representing his hometown Grand Prairie Piranhas.
“The summer is looking pretty exciting. To come here, unrested, and swim very close to my personal best, I’m very happy. “
Apollo Hess finished in second place (1:01.40), and Brayden Taivassalo took third, clocking in at 1:01.58.
Other results
Alexanne Lepage dominated the women’s 100m breaststroke, touching the wall in a time of 1:06.08 — the eighth-fastest time in the world this season.
She finished more than a second ahead of the rest of the field.
Ethan Ekk captured his second win of the meet, winning the 200m backstroke in a time of 1:57.58 on Day 5. Earlier in the week, Ekk won the 400m freestyle on Day 3.
Madison Kryger claimed the women’s 200m backstroke in 2:08.17, a swim that now ranks 12th in the world this year.
