Canadian relief pitcher Jordan Romano has signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
The Markham, Ont.,-born Romano spent his first six seasons in Major League Baseball pitching out of the bullpen for the Toronto Blue Jays.
But he parted ways with the team after the 2024 season, and pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2025.
The Angels announced the signing in a press release on Tuesday. The deal is worth $2 million US.
The Los Angeles ballclub has been struggling for some time, having seen 10 consecutive losing seasons — including its 72-90 finish in 2025.
The last time the Angels finished the season above .500 was in 2015.
Romano, 32, was a two-time all-star closer for Toronto but struggled this year in his only season with Philadelphia, going 2-4 with an 8.23 earned-run average and eight saves in 49 appearances. He struck out 47 batters and served up 10 home runs in 42 2/3 innings.
Romano is 22-21 with a 3.73 ERA and 113 saves in 280 major league games over seven seasons with the Blue Jays and Phillies.
