Germany wins Olympic gold, silver in 2-woman bobsleigh; Armbruster Humphries wins bronze for U.S.

Germany came out on top in the 2-woman bobsleigh a the Cortina Sliding Centre on Saturday, taking the gold and silver medals.

Pilot Laura Nolte and breakwoman Deborah Levi won the gold medal with a total combined time after four runs of three minutes 48.46 seconds.

Their teammates, pilot Lisa Buckwitz and breakwoman Neele Schuten won the silver medal finishing just 0.53 seconds behind them with a total combined time of three minutes 48.99 seconds.

Former Canadian Olympian now competing for the United States pilot Kaillie Armbruster Humphries and her teammate, breakwoman Jasmine Jones won the bronze medal – Armbruster Humphries second medal at Milano Cortina 2026 and sixth all-time.

Nolte and Levi defend Olympic gold

Germany’s Nolte and Levi successfully defended their gold medal in the two-woman bobsleigh on Saturday.

Nolte and Levi were second after their first run, despite setting a start record of 5.09 seconds on Friday. The finished the run just behind Armbruster Humphries and Jones who set a track record on their opening run.

But Nolte and Levi maintained their dominance as the leaders on the track over the next three runs to take the gold medal.

“It means a lot, and even to defend it together as a team again is so cool. It was such a fun race and we had to keep our nerves together until the very last corner, until the very last run, but it was amazing,” Nolte told reporters on Saturday.

“It is incredible. I don’t know what to say,” Levi said.

“We had hard times during the last four years so we fought back, and now we’re here winning gold. It’s just so crazy that we did it a second time and I don’t know what to say. I’m so grateful.”

Nolte also won the silver medal in the monobob event on Monday.

Finishing just behind their German teammates, was Buckwitz the 2-woman Olympic champion from PyeongChang in 2018, winning the silver medal with Schuten who made their Olympic debut in Milano-Cortina.

Buckwitz finished fourth in the 2-woman event in Beijing in 2022 and finished in fourth in the monobob event at Milano-Cortina.

Armbruster Humphries wins 6th Olympic medal

USA’s Armbruster Humphries won her second Olympic medal at Milano-Cortina, and sixth all-time in the 2-woman bobsleigh event with teammate Jones.

This was Jones’ Olympic debut for Team USA.

Armbruster Humphries formerly competed for Canada at the Olympics before switching to competing for America in 2019.

While competing for Canada, Armbruster Humphries won three medals in the 2-woman bobsleigh, including two gold medals at Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014, and a bronze medal at PyeongChang in 2018.

Armbruster Humphries also won the gold medal in the monobob event for USA on Monday.

Worst showing for Canada in 2-woman event

Canada’s three sleds struggled in the final two runs for the 2-woman bobsleigh event, all failing to finish within the top 10.

This marks the worst showing for Canada in the event since it was introduced in the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002.

Pilot Bianca Ribi and breakwoman Skylar Sieben had the highest finish for Canada in the 2-woman bobsleigh, tying for 11th place with China’s Mingming Huai and Xuan Wang with a total combined time of three minutes 51.44 seconds.

This was the Olympic debut for both Ribi and Sieben.

Three-time Olympian and pilot Melissa Lotholz and breakwoman Kelsey Mitchell – who made her Winter Olympic debut in bobsleigh at Milano-Cortina – finished in 13th place with a total combined time of three-minutes 51.53 seconds.

Mitchell is also a two-time Summer Olympian in track cycling where she won the Olympic gold medal in the event at Tokyo 2020.

Two-time Olympians, pilot Cynthia Appiah and brakewoman Dawn Richardson Wilson had the slowest finish for Canada, finishing just behind Lotholz and Mitchell in 14th place with a total combined time of three minutes 51.79 seconds.

It has been a disappointing Games for Appiah also competed in the monobob event on Monday. She finished 13th in the event behind teammate Lotholz who finished in sixth.

Appiah previously competed in 2-woman bobsleigh and monobob in Beijing 2022 where she finished in eight place in both. She finished fourth at 2025’s IBSF World Championships in the monobob.

After two heats of the men’s 4-man bobsleigh competition on Saturday, Canada currently sits in 14th and 19th position.

In 14th is Canada’s sled of Taylor Austin, Keaton Bruggeling, Mike Evelyn and Shaquille Murray-Lawrence who put down a combined time after the two runs of one minute, 50.14 seconds, 1.53 seconds behind the leading German sled of Joannes Lochner, Thorsten Margis, Jorn Wenzel and Georg Fleischhauer.

Canada’s second sled of Jay Dearborn, Yohan Eskrick-Parkinson, Luka Stoikos and Mark Zanette are currently in 19th after their combined time of one minute 50.45 seconds, 1.84 seconds behind the lead sled.

The third heat of the 4-man bobsleigh competition will take place Sunday at 4:00 ET, with the top 20 sleds advancing to the fourth and final run.
