Jacobs, Homan advance to finals at Pan Continental Curling Championships

Canada’s Brad Jacobs is through to the men’s gold-medal game at the Pan Continental Curling Championships after posting a narrow 5-4 semifinal win over China on Saturday in Virginia, Minn.

Vice-skip Marc Kennedy, who curled a perfect game, hit a triple-takeout to blank the ninth end with the score tied 4-4.

Then, with the hammer in the final end, the Calgary-based rink was able to control the four-foot ring and score the winning point.

Sunday’s final will be a rematch of Canada and the United States, who advanced with a 9-3 win over Japan.

Canada beat the U.S. 6-5 in Friday’s final draw to post a perfect record in the round robin.

Homan aiming for repeat

Defending champion Rachel Homan of Canada and her Ottawa-based rink beat the United States 8-3 in a women’s semifinal Saturday night. She’ll face China’s Team Wang Rui in Sunday’s final.

It’ll be a second straight Sunday final for Team Homan, which won its record 19th Grand Slam championship last weekend in Nisku, Alta.

China, 7-0 in the round robin, defeated South Korea’s Team Eunji Gim 6-5 in an extra end in the other semifinal.
