Katzberg topped the qualifying round with a toss of 81.85 metres — more than 3m better than the field.

Reigning Olympic and world champion Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, B.C., advances to the men’s hammer throw final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo with a distance of 81.85.
But first, Edmonton’s Marco Arop will begin his defence of his 800m world title when the opening-round heats get going at 6:35 a.m. ET.
Later, Gabriela DeBues-Stafford, of Toronto, will run the women’s 1,500m final at 9:05 a.m. ET.
The fifth-place finisher at the 2021 Olympics qualified by placing fifth in her semifinal heat. Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon will try for her third consecutive world title after winning her third Olympic gold last year in Paris.
The other finals taking place on Tuesday are the men’s high jump (7:36 a.m. ET) and the men’s 110m hurdles (9:20 a.m. ET).
