Natural-born second baseman
Bichette had never played an MLB game at second base before tonight.
But he may have just saved Yesavage with a slick play, ranging to his right to pick a ground ball behind the bag before a Derek Jeter-esque jump toss to retire Teoscar Hernández at first base.
The Jays’ rookie starter is struggling, unable to consistently throw strikes and allowing two runs through 2.2 innings. But he struck out Muncy to end the inning for the Dodgers and keep the score at 2-0.
If the ball to Bichette, who regularly plays at shortstop, had gotten through to the outfield, Dodgers catcher Will Smith likely would’ve scored from second and Blue Jays manager John Schneider may have had to turn to his bullpen.
Instead, Yesavage is through three innings — and the mighty Blue Jays offence is still very much in this game.
