Star pitching matchup on tap in Game 2
Kevin Gausman, the Jays’ ace, has appeared in four games this post-season, allowing just four runs over 18 innings for a shiny 2.00 ERA.
The righty relied on his nasty splitter en route to a strong regular season when he led the rotation with a 3.59 ERA.
He is manager John Schneider’s most trusted starter, and if he’s going well, he could face that daunting top of the Dodgers’ batting order — beginning with Shohei Ohtani — three times or more.
Gausman will share the mound with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who signed a 12-year, $325 million US contract with Los Angeles before ever throwing an MLB pitch two years ago.
The Japanese righty owns a miniscule 1.83 ERA in these playoffs, dominating with a six-pitch mix led by his fastball, and showing he was worth every penny of that deal.
