The Vancouver Canucks have appointed Daniel and Henrik Sedin as co-presidents of the hockey team, and Ryan Johnson as the club’s new general manager.
Team owner Francesco Aquilini announced the appointments Friday afternoon, following multiple media reports of the news earlier in the day.
Aquilini said the Sedin twins have “always committed themselves to excellence.”
He said Johnson was the team’s “top internal candidate from the beginning.”
CBC News has live coverage of the event.
The Sedins, two of the most respected and successful players in Canucks history, take on the front office positions after serving as development coaches within the organization over the past four years.
Johnson, also a former Canucks player, elevates to the NHL after serving as GM with the farm team Abbotsford Canucks and winning the Calder Cup title in 2025.

The trio have their work cut out for them. Vancouver finished dead last by a wide margin in the NHL regular season with a record of 25 wins, 49 losses and eight overtime losses, resulting in the dismissal of general manager Patrik Allvin.
Jim Rutherford, president of hockey operations, announced last week he was stepping down into an advisory role.
The most interesting questions immediately facing the new management group are whether to retain head coach Adam Foote and who to select with the third overall pick in the upcoming NHL entry draft.
