Ottawa Charge captain and free agent Brianne Jenner has been signed to a three-year contract with PWHL Hamilton in the expansion team’s first acquisition.
Hamilton announced the news Friday.
In a social media post, Jenner said she had intended to finish her professional hockey career in Ottawa, but said the Charge decided to move in a different direction.
“To the teammates, friends, and neighbours that became family during my time in Ottawa, thank you,” she wrote.
Ottawa Charge captain and free agent Brianne Jenner has signed a three-year contract with PWHL Hamilton in the expansion team’s first player acquisition.
In another post, the 35-year-old from Oakville, Ont., pointed to her family’s ties to the Golden Horseshoe and wrote: “I promise to bring my everything to this team, everyday.”
Ottawa Charge General Manager Mike Hirshfeld wished Jenner and her family all the best, calling the four-time Olympian a “pillar of our organization” for the past three seasons.
“Brianne was pivotal in setting the foundation of the culture of a new franchise in Ottawa. She made an impact in our dressing room with exceptional sportsmanship, leadership skills and work ethic,” Hirshfeld wrote in a social media post.
Brianne Jenner scored her first-career PWHL hat trick, as Ottawa blanked Minnesota 4-0.
Jenner remains Ottawa’s all-time scoring leader with 28 goals and 33 assists in 82 games.
She ranked fourth in league scoring last season with 12 goals and 14 assists in 30 games, earning her a nomination for forward of the year. Jenner is also a four-time Olympian, winning gold medals in 2014 and 2022, and silver in 2018 and 2026.
Jenner was considered one of the Charge’s foundational players heading into the PWHL’s inaugural season three years ago, and has served as captain since.
She helped lead the team to the Walter Cup final last month, losing the best-of-five series to the Montréal Victoire.
Also last month, the PWHL announced its expansion to Hamilton, Las Vegas, Detroit and San Jose, bringing the league to 12 teams.
The Ottawa Charge protected three players during the first phase of the expansion roster distribution process: Gwyneth Philips, Ronja Savolainen and Rebecca Leslie.
As a free agent, Jenner was not protected during the expansion draft.
