Breaking down Canada’s team
Here’s what you need to know about the Canadian team that will compete in Glasgow over these next 11 days:
Canada has sent 149 athletes to compete across nine sports and four Para disciplines, bringing together Olympians, Paralympians, Commonwealth champions and the next generation of Canadian sport stars.
The Canadian track & field and swimming teams are usually formidable and these Games are no different. Reigning Commonwealth Games champions Kylie Masse and Josh Liendo will lead a 12-strong Canadian swimming team. For more on the swimmers, check out Jesse Campigotto’s breakdown here.
There’s no shortage of household names on the Canadian track & field team. They are led by the 2024 Olympic champion men’s 4×100-metre relay team of Andre De Grasse, Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, and Brendon Rodney. The team has Olympic gold, world championship gold, but will attempt to score their first Commonwealth Games gold together in Glasgow.
Hammer throw superstars Camryn Rogers and Ethan Katzberg will also be in competition. Both are reigning world and Olympic champs, and will look to keep rolling in Glasgow.
Victoria’s Michael Barber will compete in the 1,500m T20 in the classification for athletes with intellectual impairments. His dad Gary Barber also ran 1,500m in the 1990 Commonwealth Games.
