Sadie Waite and Choo Hyojoo scored for Ottawa Rapid FC in a 2-0 win over the visiting Halifax Tides FC in Northern Super League play on Wednesday.

Rookie Waite struck in the 35th minute for the Canadian midfielder’s second of the season, and in the first start of her NSL career.

Defender Hyojoo capitalized on a rebound to score in the 77th minute at TD Place Stadium for her second goal of the season and set up Waite’s goal for an assist.

Ottawa improved to 3-1-0 to start the season with its third straight home win, while Halifax dropped to 1-1-1.

“We talked about it before the game, that this is the first time we can have three straight wins in a row in the club’s history,” said Ottawa coach Katrine Pederson.

“We wanted to go and do that. At the same time, we spoke about staying focused on one step at a time and not getting ahead of ourselves. We’re still climbing a mountain. It’s a long journey and even a single game can feel long.”

Melissa Dagenais repelled four Halifax shots, including two diving saves, for her second clean sheet of the season.

Tides goalie Rylee Foster allowed two goals on five shots.

Ottawa hosts the Montreal Roses on Saturday. Halifax is at home to host the reigning NSL champion Vancouver Rise on Monday.
