Therese Brisson has been named the new chief executive officer of Skate Canada, the organization announced Wednesday.

Brisson will take over July 27, replacing Debra Armstrong after a decade in the role.

A two-time Olympic medallist in women’s hockey, Brisson is set to leave her role as president and CEO of Alpine Canada after nearly six years with the organization.

She has also served on the boards of the Canadian Olympic Committee and Own the Podium.

Skate Canada said Brisson will oversee the organization’s operations and strategic direction while working with stakeholders across the country.

The organization said her mandate includes supporting grassroots participation, athlete excellence and the continued growth of skating in Canada.
