Blue Jays blunders compound deficit
If two runs felt insurmountable, then how about four?
For the Jays, the latest runs may have been preventable. Varland threw a somewhat reckless knuckle-curve to walk Betts — a pitch that was nowhere near the strike zone at 3-2.
Hoffman then entered, but threw a wild pitch with his first offering, allowing the Dodgers to score a run with the bases loaded.
Then, with the bases still loaded, shortstop Andrés Giménez likely should have thrown home when a soft groundball came his way. Instead, he tried to turn two, the relay wasn’t in time, and Los Angeles added one more.
Those are the kinds of mistakes the Blue Jays have mostly avoided all season.
